After
wandering the streets pregnant and hungry, Lucy was trapped in a "humane
cage". She gave birth to nine pups while in the trap, and waited
there until the dog warden came by the next day. She was then taken
to the Humane Society Shelter, who called "Second Chance".
Jill picked up Mom and puppies the next day.
The Mom was very sick during her first week of foster care. Just as
she recovered, all her babies became ill and too weak to feed. Jill
was reduced to milking the Mom to force feed the puppies.
The
pups were also given sub Q fluids every four hours until they were well.
Over the week, three puppies died, and two developed bone deformities
and had to be euthanised. However, the surviving puts were placed in
their new home at 10 weeks old. It was 7 months later when Lucy moved
in with her new family.
