Max
had lived almost his entire life with the people he loved the most and,
as he grew older, he felt secure knowing that they would love him until
the end. They will, of course, but sometimes fate takes a twist and
heart-wrenching decisions have to be made. The family's new baby developed
a severe allergy to their dog. Out of sheer necessity, Max was confined
to living in the basement area of the house. Poor Max, so used to being
part of family, found himself spending long hours alone. A year or so
passed. His family was desperately upset that he could no longer snuggle
with them upstairs, nor sleep by their bed. Despite spending every minute
they could with him, it wasn't enough. Eventually, they decided they
were being selfish in trying to keep their dog when he was obviously
unhappy.
At 10 years old we doubted we would
find a new home for Max. A cancerous lump on his side, and bad hips,
didn't make him very adoptable. However, Max was a real nice dog, so
2nd Chance took him in anyway!
It wasn't long before he had wormed his way into the hearts of his
foster family and they decided to keep him. His cancerous lump has been
removed and his prognosis is good. Also, he is on a glycosamine supplement
to ease the pain of his hips.
At a recent public appearance, he could be seen swimming in the lake
at Misty Pines Dog Park. He is one happy senior citizen.
