This 4 year-old yellow Lab has had a horrible life. Found as a stray and taken to our local County shelter, she was terribly emaciated and probably wouldn't have survived more than a few days. According to our vet, her unusual odor was due to her having to scavenge for anything edible. For 10 days we had to force feed her with a syringe and pureed food and we thought she wasn't going to make it! She would not lift her head to make eye contact with anyone. Finally she started to eat, and then to play with toys and - just sometimes - lift her head to acknowledge her carer. Celeste was spayed on 3/24 and the trauma of the experience has knocked her social progress back by several weeks. However there is a Lab in there somewhere and it will unfurl slowly, like a flower in the springtime. She needs someone who can love her, nurture her and help her become a lovable Labrador . She will probably never have the exuberant personality of most Labs, but can become a loyal and undemanding companion. Celeste is spayed, house trained, current on shots and has undergone rattlesnake avoidance class. In any new home, it might be weeks of patient care before the personality of this lovely yet timid dog begins to shine. She needs someone very special!
